Riverstone celebrates grand opening

Riverstone International School recently celebrated its grand opening of its new elementary school building.

Representatives from Idaho Power's Building Efficiency Program were on hand to present a check in the amount of $16,639 in recognition of the energy-saving lighting, cooling, building shell, and controls measures that were integrated into the building's design, above and beyond the standard code requirements.

Located on the school's Warm Springs campus, the 25,000-square-foot school building was designed with attention to energy efficiency and a respect for natural resources. Oriented to capture daylight, the roof follows "cool roof principles," or energy-efficiency standards for roof treatment established by Idaho Power.

The building's concrete tilt-up walls are aimed at energy savings and provide extra insulation. Boise-based Andrew Erstad of Erstad Architects was the chief architect of the school. Jerry Frank, President and CEO of PETRA Incorporated, guided the project to completion in December 2009.

The Riverstone Community, including parents, staff, and community foundations, contributed $2.1 million to the "Raise the Roof" capital campaign. KeyBank provided additional financing.
